How to Improve Creativity Skills in the Workplace



In the modern era,  the competition level is rising, and organisations are seeking strategies to improve their market share. To stand out from the crowd, the importance of creative skills can't be ignored so easily. To make the organisations successful there is a serious need for creative culture and its effective implementation can't be overlooked by the higher management. When organisations establish a culture that values the exchange of new ideas and encourages creative thinking and an essential reward system that can increase competition and will make the employees understand the organization's bigger mission.

To Increase creativity in the workplace, let's have simple ways that can foster the company's overall environment.

1. Diversify your Team

Organizations usually have a clear idea about team diversification and they believe in the idea that team skills must have to be complementing. But still, organisations have to face hurdles in facilitating the creative skills of the employees despite the introduction of new skills. When digging deep into the cause, the individuals follow the same ways of solving and handling the tasks. There is a need to make the employees creative about the tasks and this can be done during the training sessions. The trainees can be exposed to new, updated and creative methods for problem-solving. Further, when the organizations are following a team culture, the team members must be switched so the new thoughts, ideas or perspectives can be brought to give a creative direction to the ongoing or new project. 

2. Update your Creative Workplace Ambiance

 To give the message of creativity to the employees, the office layout or designs must not be ignored.  The office design can influence the employees through different art and crafts. There can be various methods that can be adopted to inspire the employees such as using various motivational quotes, different sitting patterns for the workstation area, or a creative brainstorming place. You can ask the employees to decorate their working desks and walls with pictures, plants etc. It is important to focus on the temperature, lighting, sound, and colour of the workplace.

These can help the employees to provide a better and relaxing yet creative environment where the employees can work comfortably.

3. Creative Rewards for Creativity

Besides the creative strategies for outstanding results, organisations need to be creative with their rewards system. As the organization is promoting a creative culture, so the HR department must link the rewards with the creative ideas. The rewards can also be creative in their nature both intrinsically and extrinsically. There can be various ideas regarding the rewards that can further promote creativity, such as leading a project, sharing the company revenue, trip holidays, free conveyance etc. Various other reward strategies can further foster the idea of creativity in the workplace.

4. Facilitate the Creative Work

To promote creative results, the organizations are required to provide the employees with enough resources, guidance, support and training so that they can work without any hindrances. The teams and the managers can collaborate and work on the projects with mutual understanding and cooperation. To initiate the work they must brainstorm to meet the deadlines.

During the project, the work should be done systematically with collective team efforts. During this process, the team members should cooperate to function appropriately so they can be fully involved in the assigned tasks. To manage the project effectively, through a positive attitude and behaviours, humour and a cheerful environment, the goals can be accomplished.

5. Provide Employees Freedom and Flexibility.

To foster a creative culture in the workplace, the management must provide the employees with the freedom to work and support them in taking a risk. Dealing with the same routine might block sound thinking and innovative ideas. For example, the employees are given the freedom to work flexible hours, can brainstorm in places outside the work premises etc.

Another important feature of creative culture is that organisations must support their employees in taking risks to implement their ideas.  Many employees hesitate to share new ideas because of the risk of failure. Here, the responsibility of the organization comes, the higher management can communicate clearly to the employees that it supports creativity and understands its importance. This will encourage the employees not to stop working on creative and innovative ideas for betterment.
